Check In: Blue Mountains, or Unbelievable Story (1983)
Darkly funny & absurdist Georgian satire in the waining days of the USSR, where the party headquarters in Tbilisi is threatened by some mysterious forces. It isn’t the poltergeist but something more insidious- rampant bureaucratism & group think that is causing serious cracks to appear in the party infrastructure. While a painting threatens to fall & a manuscript goes through the approval process, this House of Usher is about to fall under the weight of its own mortal sins.
Part of Pacific Film Archives’ focus on Georgian cinema, with the director & his family members present at the reception preceding the movie.
