Rosy eyed look at how the young & starry eyed get played by the cynical. Crowe asks the right questions, but jumps out of the car before the cliff on this game of chicken. So the movie meanders like a fading solo to a dismal plonk of the guitar string. The ending isn’t satisfactory, & there are infinite possibilities of cuts for the film, with the three main characters deluding themselves again & again. Reed/ Greene’s The Fallen Idol did it much better.
